The Two-Minute Morning Practice That Changes the Whole Day

Before the day gets loud.

It's 6:52am and the day has already started without you.

You haven't brushed your teeth yet, but you've read three emails, seen a text from your mother, and mentally rewritten the thing you're going to say in the 10am meeting. By the time your feet hit the floor, you're already reacting. And you'll keep reacting until about 9pm, when you finally sit down and wonder where the day went.

Here's what changes that. It takes about two minutes, and it happens before the phone.

The practice

This is the Daily Practice we use in the Studio. It's three questions. You can do it in bed, in the shower, or standing at the coffee maker.

  1. How do I want to feel today? One to three words. Not how you feel right now. How you want to feel. Grounded. Open. Steady. Powerful. Free.
  2. How does the woman I'm becoming move through this day? Not some abstract future version of you. Today. This meeting, this school pickup, this conversation you've been avoiding. How does she walk into it?
  3. What's one choice I'll make as her? One. Small is fine. Small is better. Answer the text after lunch instead of now. Say no to the thing. Take the walk.

That's the whole thing.

A practice you can only do on a good day isn't a practice. It's a mood.

Why it works

Most of us start the day by finding out what everyone else needs. The inbox decides your mood. Your kid's mood decides the next one. By 8am you're living a day somebody else designed.

The Daily Practice puts one decision in front of all that. You choose a direction before the day chooses one for you. You won't hold it all day. You'll lose it by 10am. But now there's something to come back to, and coming back is the actual skill.

It's also small on purpose. Two minutes is short enough to do on the morning your kid has a fever and the dog threw up and you overslept. That's the morning it matters most.

What it sounds like

  • A Monday with a hard meeting. "Steady. She walks in having already decided she doesn't need them to like the idea. One choice: I'll say it once, clearly, and stop talking."
  • A day with nothing on it. "Open. She lets the day be slow and doesn't fill it with errands to feel useful. One choice: no phone until after the walk."
  • A day you're dreading. "Grounded. She doesn't have to fix how her sister feels. One choice: I'll listen, and I won't offer advice unless she asks."

When you forget

You will forget. Everyone does, usually on day four. Here's the rule: if you remember at 3pm, do it at 3pm. There's no streak to break. Two minutes at 3pm still changes the rest of the afternoon.

If even two minutes feels like too much, do just the first question. How do I want to feel today? One word. That counts.

Where this comes from

The Daily Practice is the spine of the Well Dosed Method and of everything we do in the Studio: six live classes a month, built around these two minutes. Every RESET membership includes the Studio, because the morning after a ceremony is exactly when the old patterns try to come back.

You don't need to join anything to start, though. Tomorrow morning, before the phone, ask yourself the first question. See what happens.

Practice who you are becoming. Join the waitlist and you'll be the first to know when the doors open.
